Kyrie Irving recently finished up one of his most efficient postseason performances as a member of the NBA, but he’s been forced to endure some unexpected adversity during the 2024 offseason. While preparing for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season, Irving broke his left hand and proceeded to undergo surgery in an attempt to rectify it. Fortunately, the surgery was a success, but there’s no guarantee that the three-time All-NBA guard will be a full participant in training camp.

“Kyrie Irving has undergone surgery to repair a broken left hand,” the Dallas Mavericks said on Tuesday. “He sustained the injury earlier this month while training. Further medical updates on Irving’s status will be provided as appropriate.”

During the 2024 postseason, Irving averaged 22.1 points on 46.7 percent shooting and 39 percent from three to go along with 5.1 assists. He didn’t play his best basketball in the finals against the Boston Celtics, but I think it’s fair to say that the Mavericks wouldn’t have reached the final stage of the NBA playoffs without Irving’s admiral offensive showcases. As long as Irving is available for the start of the regular season in October, Mavericks fans should be in good spirits going into 2024-25.
