On Monday, UConn head coach Dan Hurley agreed to a six-year, $50 million contract that’ll keep him with the Huskies for the foreseeable future. Hurley, who has led the Huskies to two national titles in six seasons, considered leaving for the NBA after orchestrating a successful postseason for the second consecutive year (Big East Tournament and NCAA Tournament champions), but the 2023-24 Naismith Coach of the Year elected to continue coaching in the Big East in 2024-25 and beyond.

“It’s an honor to coach basketball at UConn and to represent this world class institution and the great state of Connecticut,” Hurley said. “We are extremely proud of the championship program that we have rebuilt for our supporters and fans. We will continue to obsessively pursue championships and historic success, while continuing to develop great young men. Bleed Blue!”

Hurley boasts an exceptional 141-58 overall record at UConn to go along with two NCAA Tournament/Big East Tournament titles. Back in June, the Lakers offered Hurley a six-year, $70 million contract to take over for Darvin Ham in Los Angeles, but the idea of returning to UConn and building a dynasty at the collegiate level proved to be too captivating for him to turn down. Despite losing four players to the NBA Draft this offseason, ESPN staff writer, Jeff Borzello, believes that the Huskies are worthy of a top 5 preseason ranking going into Hurley’s 7th season in Storrs (#3 to be exact).

If there’s one coach capable of reloading/ reconstructing their roster after cutting down the nets in April, it’s Hurley, as he was tasked with putting together another championship-contending roster this past season after winning a national title in 2022-23. With Hurley back on the sidelines at UConn, I think it’s safe to say that the hottest program in college basketball is in for another spectacular season in 2024-25.
