The 2024 Olympics in Paris are finally underway and unsurprisingly, there is a ton of excitement surrounding the USA’s Men’s basketball team. I mean, with so many intriguing storylines to examine, how could it not be the main attraction, right? Whether it’s Anthony Edwards claiming he’s the number one option, confusion regarding the Jaylen Brown snub or questions pertaining to Kevin Durant’s status for the Olympics, there are plenty of legitimate reasons for you to keep your eyes on Steve Kerr’s Team USA squad.
Having said that, the Olympics only come around every four years, so why not check out some of the other amazing sports that are being broadcasted on NBC/Peacock? You may not be a full-fledged fan of some of these sports when it’s all said and done, but at least you’ll be able to say that you expanded your horizon and abandoned your comfort zone for two weeks. I was familiar with handball prior to the start of the Olympics, but I would be fibbing if I told you that it’s a sport I’ve been tracking for years. Nevertheless, I found myself tuning into a women’s handball match between France and Hungary, and I can honestly say that I was thoroughly entertained. It’s very similar to the game of basketball, as it is a fast-paced sport that involves heavy dribbling, passing, shooting (into a goal) and player movement. As a sports fan who loves non-stop action and despises constant pauses throughout the course of a game, I was thrilled with the idea of having to devote all of my attention to the contest for 60 minutes.
I also had a chance to tune into the cross-country phase of the equestrian eventing sport over the weekend and once again, I was not disappointed with the product. If you think you would enjoy watching a horse navigate a challenging cross-country course while displaying its ability to travel at high rate of speed, leap over multiple obstacles and avoid massive penalties, then you should give this sport a watch. You may not understand what you’re viewing at times, but the impressive athleticism and foot speed should help keep your attention for a while. My point is, I’m sure we’re all looking forward to following Team USA’s journey on the hardwood, but let’s not limit ourselves to one sport and run the risk of missing out on everything that the Olympics have to offer.
